Voyonic Grampian Forest rally sets offsetting record

August 7, 2024

Carbon Positive Motorsport will partner with the Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally for the third time to set a new carbon offsetting record for a Scottish forest event.

The upcoming Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally will partner with Carbon Positive Motorsport for the third year in succession, creating a new record for an event in Scotland.

This year a total of 30 competitors have included 200% positive levels of carbon offsetting in their entry fees, equivalent to 18,000kg of Co2e. Taken together with previous years, the total positive carbon offsetting enabled by the event is over 55,000 Kg CO2e, the highest level for any Scottish forest event to date.

Once again, the event uses Carbon Positive Motorsport's world class Woodland Carbon Code project based at Loch Ness in Scotland as part of the offsetting package. The project restores ancient lost woodlands with our native tree varieties, capturing carbon and improving local biodiversity. Together with Carbon Reduction Units that immediately offset emissions, competitors will offset 200% of the CO2e they generate.

Leading BRC drivers Garry Pearson and Max McRae will be competing with their carbon emissions offset by their sponsors The Asset Alliance Group.

The event will see the return of the Probite British Rally Championship, and leading BRC drivers Garry Pearson and Max McRae will be competing with their carbon emissions offset by their sponsor The Asset Alliance Group.

Joining the BRC are the Asset Alliance Group Scottish Rally Championship regulars, plus newcomers Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup IRE & UK, with each series using the event as a counting round.

Carbon Positive Motorsport ambassador and leading SRC driver John Wink is now competing for the third year with his carbon emissions offset. After testing recently with Matt Edwards John commented, "We are looking forward to progressing with our pace on gravel at the Grampian, and to mix it up a bit – it will be interesting competing against the BRC contingent and I can’t wait to get into it!"

In addition to the new format and championships, the rally has also created a new rally zone located in the centre of Banchory, bringing the excitement of the two-day event even closer to the local community.

“I think it’s fair to say that this is the biggest and most exciting Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally we have ever seen, and we are extremely excited to get this year’s event underway,” said Clerk of the Course, Graham Provest.

Carbon Positive Motorsport director, Paul Glass, added "We are delighted to work with the Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally again. We're very grateful to the event organisers for their long-term support, and to all the competitors who have supported the initiative this year.

"This year's event really looks fantastic, and it's especially great to see one of my heroes Jimmy McRae return to the stages. Jimmy will be running at car 50, to celebrate his 50th year competing, and I'm delighted that he will be offsetting his emissions with us. It's a great positive message from the rally competitors to the local community, that so many are doing their part to give back to the environment."

It only costs a little to make a big difference and Carbon Positive Motorsport are delighted to offer competitors and spectators a discount for offsetting their event fuel usage or event travel to the Voyonic Gampian rally using the discount code below.
