The Modern Tyres Ulster Rally has partnered with Carbon Positive Motorsport to provide carbon offsetting for competitors and all organiser's event vehicles.
In the first year of a long-term environmental roadmap and commitment to mitigate the event's carbon footprint, 26 competitors have decided to support the event by including carbon offsetting as part of their entry, and as a result will enable over 11,000kg of carbon emissions to be offset in the future using a world class carbon offsetting project based in the Highlands of Scotland.
Carbon Positive Motorsport will have three of their team of Brand Ambassadors competing on this year’s event, with Garry Pearson starting at car 11, Jason Mitchell in car 12, and Kyle White in car 47.#
Garry Pearson is currently 5th in the British Championship and speaking ahead of the event told us, "I’m looking forward to being back in Northern Ireland for the first time in ten years. We are realistic going to Ulster given our lack of experience there, but can’t wait to tackle the stages."
Jason Mitchell has been an ambassador for Carbon Positive Motorsport since 2022 and is well known for his spectacular driving style. Early this season there were some challenges with his new car set up, but with these now resolved, a competitive finish will be the goal.
Jason's company, Greenville Energy, is a brand partner to Carbon Positive Motorsport and the two companies are working together on future projects to include Greenville's industry leading technology for the benefit of motorsport and climate change.
Kyle White has been competing with Carbon Offsetting since the launch of Carbon Positive Motorsport and has joined us this year as a Brand Ambassador in the British Rally Championship, where he is currently leading the junior driver championship and 7th overall in the championship standings.
Carbon Positive Motorsport director Steve Smith said, "We are very proud to be supporting the Modern Tyres Ulster Rally using our end-to-end carbon offsetting event package. The event is one I know well from my days with Prodrive, so I know how thrilling the event will be for competitors and spectators alike.
"Our brand was first seen on the event in 2021 when we first launched, with our brand ambassador Matt Edwards, who during that year’s event went on to become British Rally Champion, the first to do so using carbon offsetting."
Wherever possible for UK events, we look for regional carbon offsetting projects that meet our very high standards of environmental and biodiversity benefits.
We are very excited that from next year we will have eight new Woodland Carbon Code projects based in Northern Ireland available to use for future events. For the Republic of Ireland, we are unable to use the UK Woodland Carbon Code projects, so instead we use verified quality overseas schemes which are enhanced with European rewilding projects.
To further reduce the event's environmental impact, Carbon Positive Motorsport are also offering all Modern Tyres Ulster Rally competitors and spectators a 20% discount, to encourage all travelling to the event to help bring a greater positive environmental impact.
