Carbon Positive Motorsport Ambassador Max Coates tops the Porsche Challenge standings thanks to his results at Donington Park last weekend.
Carbon Positive Motorsport Ambassador Max Coates was racing at Donington in the Porsche Challenge last weekend, supporting the British Touring Car Championship.
The dry track for testing helped the Yorkshire driver work out some issues with the car setup, but the wet qualifying session and traffic saw him in 7th and 4th on the grid for the first two races of the day. "I was on for pole at the mid point and the second stint on the new tyre everyone went a bit quicker, but I lost the peak of the tyre finding space and with traffic." Max said.
A fastest lap and some excellent racing moved him up from seventh to finish fifth in the first race, and he improved on his fourth place on the grid to take a podium position for the second.
Starting order for race three was based on the finish of race two so Max claimed third on the grid and held the place throughout the race.
The two podium positions and 4th place from race one were enough to move Max into the lead of the championship: "A brilliant weekend at Donington complete and now championship leader, I don’t think I’ve been in this position since 2019 and it feels good," he said, adding, "A massive thank you to all at Graves Motorsport, Dave and Chris have helped me to develop as a driver and I think we’re close to getting everything out of both car and myself. "Thanks to Primex Plastics, Plas-Tech Thermoforming and Green Bricks Building. All my partners help me to be on the grid and performing at this level. We’ve got two rounds to go at Silverstone 21st / 22nd September and Brands Hatch 5th / 6th October."
