Focus Cup: Race Report

May 24, 2023

Carbon Positive Motorsport Ambassador and novice racer Sarah Hall reports on her second race meeting at the iconic Brands Hatch circuit.

Rookie race driver Sarah Hall is taking part in the Focus Cup for her first full season of racing. Here's how she got on at her second race meeting of the year.

Sarah Hall Focus Cup Race Report

After the season opener at Donington Park I was really looking forward to Round 2, getting the car tweaked again and getting more comfortable in the seat.

I've been under physio supervision which is helping my fitness and wellbeing before making the long journey down from Middlesbrough to Brands.

I was, as always, excited and apprehensive about heading out onto track. I have driven Brands Indy once before which was a comfort and we spent the test day working on set up and driver confidence. Race day however, we headed straight onto the GP circuit for qualifying having never driven the track! I did head onto the sim the evening before to get some GP laps in so the layout was already in my mind.

What a track! The sun was shining through the trees and I was in a race car on the GP circuit - an amazing and surreal experience! I got some safe laps in the bag for qualifying and a better look at the track ahead of the races.

Race 1

The race saw one of the drivers overcook the turn into the GP loop and cause some barrier damage, meaning the majority of the race was behind the safety car. Frustrating race not being able to get any pace up.

Race 2

We got a few laps in and another multiple car incident brought the safety car out again and due to a start line delay we had the race time cut short also. Unfortunately another frustrating race not being able to do much but that's racing sometimes!

Our drivers are all fine, and we all got to drive an iconic track which was an amazing experience I'm very grateful for.

I'm really looking forward to the next round which is a double header at another brand new track - this time I have sim time prior to the race, and some driver coaching booked in for the test day.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to all those that came to the track and sent messages of support from afar, and to my season partners for their continued support throughout.

Sarah Hall

Well done Sarah on getting through your second race weekend, and the very best of luck at Snetterton on June 3rd.
