The Nicky Grist Stages Rally will partner with Carbon Positive Motorsport for the third year in succession, using a Welsh carbon project for the first time as part of the event’s environmental roadmap.
The event will feature the leading BTRDA and multiple Welsh Rally championship winning crew of Matthew Hirst and Declan Dear, who join Carbon Positive Motorsport’s group of ambassadors for the first time as event enviro ambassadors.
Speaking ahead of the event, Matthew said: "I’ve long admired the impact which Carbon Positive Motorsport has made in British rallying in recent years, and it's great to be a small part of that."
The pair will be supporting the event to highlight the inclusion of a new carbon project in Abergavenny in Wales. This project will be used for the first time to help mitigate the event's unavoidable carbon emissions and supports the planting of over 1,500 sequioa and 6,000 native broadleaf trees. It repurposes a former monocultural commercial tree planting site, and will bring significant improvements to biodiversity on the site.
Carbon Positive Motorsport director Steve Smith added, "We are delighted to work with the Nicky Grist Stages once more. The rally organisers were the first in the UK to include our offsetting event package and they continue to make significant efforts to mitigate their carbon footprint.
"We are very grateful to the event organisers and to Nicky Grist for their long-term support of our initiative. Nicky is a legend in our sport, and to have his high-profile support is a great platform to raise awareness of our initiative at home and internationally, for the benefit of our sport's long term success. We are looking forward to sharing some exciting news on how we will be working with him in the future very soon!"
Paul Glass from Carbon Positive Motorsport, added, "It's great to continue working with the Nicky Grist Stages, strengthening our ambition to help make motorsport and the environment sustainable for future generations to enjoy. "
Motorsport need not cost the earth, and you can play your part by offsetting your whole motorsport season.
