We catch up with Carbon Positive Motorsport Brand Ambassador Kyle White ahead of the Modern Tyres Ulster Rally this weekend.
Kyle was one of the first drivers we asked to be an Event Ambassador, aided by a few late-night beers on the Trackrod Rally 2021. After he competed on couple of 2022 events as an Event Ambassador, we are now providing offsetting for him for his entire 2023 season, as one of our Brand Ambassadors.
Carbon Positive Motorsport Brand Ambassador Kyle White
Ahead of the Modern Tyres Ulster Rally, which is the first event we have provided offsetting for outside mainland Britain, we catch up with Kyle about his time in rallying, his season so far, and his views on sustainability in the sport.
CPM: Kyle, it is a pleasure to have you join us as a Brand Ambassador this year together with Sean Topping, how has the British Rally Championship been so far this year?
KW: So far so good in the 2023 Junior BRC, we had a small mishap in the Ypres Rally which has set us back a bit! but we are determined to get a good result in the Ulster Rally and beyond.
CPM: You’re only 27, yet this is your 10th year of rallying! That’s huge experience to have built up. How did you get into the sport, and what events have helped develop your driving the most?
KW: My father was not only a rally man himself, but also a rally fan, and having grown up in our family business of car sales and repair, I was always destined to be a rally driver.
CPM: This year was your first experience of driving on a mainland continental European event, in Ypres, how did that event compare to others?
KW: It was for sure a huge learning curve, we found out early on that I needed to apply a different driving style, as I cooked the brakes and got stuck in a ditch as a result, but it was great to be on the pace with the top European guys as early as the first stage.
CPM: You’re currently leading the Junior BRC Championship, it’s maybe an obvious question to ask what your hopes are for this year, so instead let’s ask - if you win, what would be your plans for next year?
KW: It is maybe a bit too early to talk about the championship, as we are only 3 rallies into it, but it’s a great position to be in going forward, we will take it rally by rally to try maximise our chances.
CPM: Final question – and it’s looking to the future of the sport – how do you see the sport developing, and how important do you think sustainability in our sport will be for its future success?
KW: I think it’s great to have people like you and Steve at Carbon Positive Motorsport trying to help reduce the carbon footprint of rallying, I’m glad to be a part of this scheme and hope it can continue for years to come.
