Rali Ceredigion: Award-winning Sustainability
Winners of the 2023 Motorsport UK Environmental Sustainability Award
The JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion has demonstrated how motorsport events can address their environmental responsibilities while maintaining their competitive significance.
We are proud to have supported Rali Ceredigion, the only rally in the UK to have achieved FIA 2-star Environmental Accreditation, and the 2023 Motorsport UK Environmental Sustainability Award winners.
In 2024, Rali Ceredigion offset 200,000 kg of CO₂e, double the estimated carbon footprint for the event. This was facilitated by Carbon Positive Motorsport using a combination of verified carbon reduction projects, including reforestation and renewable energy support, as well as rewilding initiatives in Wales designed to restore natural habitats and biodiversity.
The rally adopted several operational improvements to minimise its direct impact, including
adapting the route to minimise unnecessary road miles, with a park and ride scheme to reduce spectator traffic movements and digital documentation in place to reduce paper usage.
Motorsport UK Chairman, David Richards CBE, said: “The Environmental Sustainability Award is testament to Rali Ceredigion’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and the organiser’s efforts to integrate sustainable practices. Their dedication to preserving the beautiful landscapes of Ceredigion and its surroundings, while still offering competitors and spectators thrilling experiences, showcases the harmonious coexistence of motorsport and environmental sustainability.
“The event’s work in promoting eco-friendly practices is a shining example for all organisers. Motorsport UK is confident that Rali Ceredigion’s commitment to environmental sustainability will inspire other events to follow in their footsteps, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future for our sport.”
