We've enabled 1 million kg of carbon emissions to be offset

August 28, 2024

With your help, we've enabled offsetting for more than a million kilograms of CO2 emissions since 2022.

Thanks a million! With your help, we've enabled offsetting for more than a million kilograms of CO2 emissions since 2022.

Carbon Positive Motorsport would like to thank everyone who has supported the Positive About Motorsport initiative. Together we have reached the incredible milestone of enabling over a million kilograms of carbon emissions to be offset.

That's the equivalent of over 6,000 planted and developed mature trees, or the consumption of 431,000 litres of fuel.

Since 2022 we've offset 1 million kg of co2 emissions. That's the equivalent of over 6,000 planted and developed mature trees, or the consumption of 431,000 litres of fuel.

To generate this offsetting level through four carbon offsetting projects, it has taken over 700 different competitors, competing in 19 different events, within 12 major championships, across eight countries and eight motorsport disciplines, using four different types of fuel.

This huge effort has generated additional carbon capture, as we've offset 25% more emissions than were made. We've also positively contributed to 6 United Nations sustainability goals.

since 2022 we've offset 1 million kg and we've offset 25% more fuel than you actually used

Paul Glass, founder of Carbon Positive Motorsport: "This milestone really shows that together we can make a difference. We're very grateful to everyone who included carbon offsetting in their motorsport activities, and we really can say to everyone, thanks a million!

"We would like to recognise the efforts of all the event organisers, who realise how important it is to demonstrate they're actively working to reduce and offset their carbon footprint.

Since 2022 we've offset 1 million kg of co2 emissions. We've helped 19 events reduce and offset their co2 emissions

"Thanks also to the competitors who have voluntarily included carbon offsetting in their event entries or used our online services, and to the motorsport media who have helped get our message out. "We're also very grateful to those competitors who have encouraged us so much by acting as ambassadors and helped promote the Positive About Motorsport message."

Since 2022 we've offset 1 million kg of co2 emissions. Together, we can make motorsport sustainable

Since 2022 we have evolved our service in order to support motorsport in the best way possible. An important part of the initiative's development has come from input from events, sponsors and competitors who took the time to share their data, allowing us to fine tune our services and refine our offsetting model. Paul Glass continues, "We are proud to be motorsport enthusiasts and competitors, independently helping our sport become more sustainable and hopefully protecting it for future generations to enjoy."

The Positive About Motorsport initiative is based on always offsetting more emissions than are generated, and we only use the highest possible standard for our certified carbon offsetting projects.

Without our approach, motorsport is open to accusations of greenwashing, as many projects or schemes are misleading about their benefits or integrity.

Since 2022 we've offset 1 million kg of co2 emissions. We've invested in four different properly erified and certified cabon offsetting projects.

Steve Smith from Carbon Positive Motorsport added, "It’s a fantastic achievement to have reached this milestone, and its great to be able to share it before Rali Ceredigion, a flagship UK event that is partnering with Carbon Positive Motorsport for the third year in succession.

"It's a great step towards securing the future of the sport in the longer term, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg of what’s possible and needed in our sport. Legitimate carbon offsetting is needed to help address global climate change, but it’s only one part of the solution.

"We need to reduce emissions and capture carbon already existing in the atmosphere – and we need to do both faster. Part of our work is to help address the perception of motorsport, as well as giving practical solutions to take local action that helps us all to act on global climate change."

Genuine offsetting can show that the activity of motorsport is helping to address the climate change crisis
